There are two types of grips: long and short. The only difference between them is that
long grips are intended for pistols without a magwell, while short grips are designed to be used with a magwell (they are shorter by the height of the magwell). Don't look for any other differences.
If you’ve recently purchased a new CZ pistol, it comes without a magwell by default. The only exception is the CZ TS 2, which comes factory-equipped with a magwell. However, this magwell can be removed.
If you plan to use your pistol without a magwell, you’re in the right category – choose long grips.
Pros and cons of using a magwell
Before diving into grips, let’s look at what installing a magwell does to your pistol:
-
Increased weight: A magwell is a metal accessory and therefore adds extra weight. This can be both an advantage and a disadvantage depending on context. In competition, the extra weight at the rear helps with recoil control and improves stability; for daily carry, many prefer the lightest setup possible.
-
Improved reload speed: A magwell enlarges the magazine well opening, making reloads faster and easier.
Ultimately, the decision is yours and will depend on the primary purpose of your firearm.
Important: Long grips also fit compact models
We’ve encountered cases where customers were looking for short grips for their Compact CZ models (e.g., CZ P-01, CZ 75 Compact, or CZ Shadow 2 Compact) even though they did not intend to install a magwell. The assumption seems to be: Compact pistol = short grip. This is not the case.
For models like CZ P-01 and CZ 75 Compact, we offer both long and short grips – again, your choice depends on whether or not you’ll be using a magwell.
For the CZ Shadow 2 Compact, we currently offer only long grips.
Compatibility of long grips
CZ pistols with replaceable long grips fall into three size categories:
- Full-size CZ models
- Compact CZ models (excluding Shadow 2 Compact)
- CZ Shadow 2 Compact
The good news: pistols within the same size category typically have interchangeable grips.
For example:
CZ Shadow 2 grips are also compatible with CZ 75B, CZ SP-01, and CZ TS 2 (if the magwell is removed).
Exception: CZ Shadow 2 Compact
Due to its unique construction, the Shadow 2 Compact requires specifically designed grips that differ slightly from other Compact CZ grips.

By material
Each grip material varies in weight, durability, and handling characteristics. Here's a breakdown to help you choose:
Aluminum
Pros: Lightweight, available in various textures, colors, and finishes.
Cons: More prone to scratching, absorbs less recoil.
Recommended for: Sport shooting (when light weight is preferred), self-defense, EDC.
Polymer
Pros: Lightweight, corrosion-resistant, impact-resistant, budget-friendly, low maintenance.
Cons: Less premium appearance.
Recommended for: Self-defense, EDC, beginner shooters.
Brass
Pros: Solid, deformation-resistant, improves weight distribution and stability, enhances grip feedback, visually appealing.
Cons: Heavier and more expensive.
Recommended for: Sport shooting, especially for shooters who need improved balance and grip control.
By firearm type
Naturally, the type of pistol is the primary factor when choosing grips. We offer long grips for the following CZ models:
By size
A standard grip fits an average shooter’s hand.
However, shooters with larger hands or those needing a firmer, fuller grip might benefit from 3D profile grips – like those from Toni System.
Shooters with smaller hands may prefer thin-profile grips, which also help with concealed carry and a more compact feel.
Some manufacturers offer all three grip thicknesses, allowing you to choose the best match for your hand size – for example, check out Armanov’s grip width options for a personalized fit.
